President Donald Trump has announced he is raising tariffs on items imported from Canadian sources after the province of Ontario ran an anti-tariff advertisement featuring ex-President Reagan.

In a social media message on the weekend, the President called the commercial a "misrepresentation" and condemned Canada's authorities for not pulling it ahead of the World Series.

"Owing to their significant misrepresentation of the facts, and hostile act, I am increasing the Tariff on Canadian goods by ten percent on top of what they are paying now," he wrote.

Following Trump on last Thursday withdrew from trade negotiations with Canada, the Ontario's leader stated he would remove the advert.

Ontario's Position

Ontario Premier Doug Ford declared on last Friday that he would halt his region's anti-tariff ad campaign in the United States, advising journalists that he decided after discussions with the Prime Minister Carney "to ensure commercial discussions can restart".

He also said it would remain broadcast over the weekend, featuring contests for the World Series, which includes the Toronto Blue Jays against the Dodgers.

Commercial Background

Canada is the exclusive G7 nation nation that has not secured a agreement with the America since Donald Trump started trying to levy high import taxes on goods from primary commercial allies.

The US has already imposed a thirty-five percent duty on each Canadian products - though most are exempt under an present free trade agreement. It has also slapped sector-specific taxes on Canadian products, including a 50 percent duty on metal products and 25% on cars.

In his message, published while he was flying to Malaysia, Donald Trump appeared to state he was including 10 percent to the existing tariffs.

Seventy-five percent of Canadian exports are sent to the United States, and the region is the location of the bulk of Canadian car production.

Reagan Advertisement Particulars

The advert, which was funded by the Ontario authorities, quotes former US President Reagan, a Republican and symbol of conservative values, stating tariffs "damage all Americans".

The advertisement uses clips from a 1987-era radio speech that addressed international trade.

The Ronald Reagan Foundation, which is responsible for preserving the former president's heritage, had condemned the advertisement for using "selective" sound and footage and said it distorted the former president's address. It also said the provincial government had not requested permission to use it.

Current Disputes

In his update on Truth Social on the weekend, the President claimed that the advertisement should have been taken down sooner.

"Ontario's Commercial was to be removed AT ONCE, but they kept it broadcasting recently during the World Series, knowing that it was a FRAUD," Trump stated, while en route to Asia.

Ford had previously promised to broadcast the Reagan commercial in all GOP-controlled area in the United States.

Both the President and the PM will be going to the Association of Southeast Asian Nation in Malaysia, but the President advised reporters traveling with him on Air Force One that he does not have any "desire" of speaking with his Canada's leader during the visit.

In his post, Trump also claimed Canada of seeking to influence an forthcoming American high court legal case which could terminate his whole tax system.

The legal matter, to be considered by the Supreme Court soon, will decide whether the duties are lawful.

On Thursday, the President additionally condemned, claiming that the advertisement was created to "tamper" with "THE MOST IMPORTANT CASE EVER"

The advertisement is not the sole way that Ontario – location of the Blue Jays – is using the World Series as a opportunity to criticize Donald Trump's duties.

In a recording posted on last Friday, Ford and Gavin Newsom Newsom humorously agreed on stakes about which side would triumph the series.

Both men consistently joked about import taxes in the recording, with Doug Ford promising to send the Governor a container of syrup if the Dodgers triumph.

"The duty might charge me a few extra bucks at the border these days, but it'll be worth it," he wrote.

In answer, Newsom asked Ford to resume allowing American beverages to be available in Ontario liquor stores, and promised to deliver "California's top-quality grape drink" if the Blue Jays succeed.

They ended their dialogue together declaring: "To a great World Series, and a tariff-free relationship between Ontario and the state."
