The resident of a town near the city, told a local newspaper that she had gone back to the city to see if he was in the hospital, while his father did the same in Bern, but did not locate him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. It's horrific," she told the paper.
She continued that some of his friends had been located with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through hell."

Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise unaccounted for. His parent told reporters that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and ended up at the venue.
"A companion said they fled after the fire started and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a certain point he lost sight of him," she said, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his educators commented, "I remember his kindness and smile, alongside great maturity. Often ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss nationality but lives permanently in the country, was also at the bar on New Year's Eve, according to media.
Her sibling has posted an appeal online, saying the family has had "no information" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
