Alleged Harasser Asked: 'Yet What If I Might Be Madeleine?'

A woman accused with harassing Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a phone message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, 24, who witnesses stated has consistently claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told communication data and evidence retrieved from phones recorded Ms Wandelt persistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during the past two years.

Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most publicized child disappearance cases and remains unresolved.

'I Do Not Need Money'

A separate recorded message, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I know I'm fat and not pretty like Madeleine used to be, but I believe what I believe."

While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I am Madeleine? What then? Wouldn't that be important for you?"

"I don't want money, I possess a living here in Poland, I just want to know," the message continued.

The tribunal was informed that via emails, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a genetic test, sent youth pictures to her phone in a attempt to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "memories" from a childhood with the McCanns.

The investigator, a data specialist with the police force who gathered the information, told the court there "showed no any replies" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt additionally reached out to family friends of the McCanns, according to the call data.

On 9 October 2024, Mr McCann answered a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "incorrect contact information."

During that incident Ms Wandelt left a recording on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will continue and I will prove my claim."

The court heard the co-defendant developed a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' property in the county in that winter.

Call logs showed Mrs Spragg had communicated using communication app to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be considered genuine in the period leading up to the appearance to that location, the county, in December 2024.

The court learned communications between the two accused, in last November, considering trying to acquire Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her trash or from cutlery at a eating establishment.

"We need to take action," the co-defendant informed Ms Wandelt.
